AQUACROSS Forum on Ecosystem-based Management of Freshwater, Coastal, and Marine Ecosystems – Insights for Innovation from Science, Policy, and Business

logoAlcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain from June 27th to 28th, 2016.

The Forum is organised by the EU Horizon 2020 research project AQUACROSS: Knowledge, Assessment, and Management for AQUAtic Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services aCROSS EU policies. It is hosted by IMDEA Water research foundation.

If you are interested in freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems but, above all, if you feel that policies across those three realms are too fragmented, the assessment of impacts over these three types of ecosystems is partial, and there is room for further integration between science, policy, and businesses for a more effective action to protect and enhance ecosystem services delivery and biodiversity levels throughout Europe, this Forum will surely catch your eye. And, if so, please do not hesitate to register – your input will be highly appreciated!

The aim of the Forum is to bring together scientists, policy makers, and members of the business community engaged in innovative solutions to discuss cross-cutting topics related to aquatic ecosystems and opportunities for ecosystem-based management. An interactive multi-stakeholder panel discussion will be held with key leaders and experts who will share their views and provide feedback on experiences in assessing, managing, and even using freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems. The interim results of AQUACROSS will also be shared and reviewed with participants in order to bring new knowledge and innovative ideas into ongoing project discussions and upcoming outputs.

We are committed to deliver an appealing and dynamic programme for the Forum (based on facilitated panels or dialogues rather than ppt-based monologues), with innovation as the backbone of the 1.5-day discussions. Innovation in policy, innovation in management, innovation in ecosystem-based management approaches, innovation in the integration of the three aquatic realms, innovation stemming from the interaction between science, policy, and practical applications of the business community, social innovation, etc.

The Forum will take place at Parador de Alcalá, Colegios 8, 28801 Alcalá de Henares, Madrid (Spain). Registration will be limited to 120 participants and is already available through the Forum website. Please note that no travel expenses will be covered and participants will be asked to pay 60€, should they want to attend the social dinner on June 27th, 2016. Group rates for hotel rooms will be available at the venue.

The scientific partners of the H2020 AQUACROSS project are pleased to announce the Workshop on Ecosystem-based Management across Water Realms that will take place as a side event of the Forum. Information on the call for papers and abstract submission is available here:
