At the 108th plenary meeting on 10 September 2014 , the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Outcome Document for Sustainable Development Goals, which was the report of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals established pursuant to General Assembly resolution 66/288
This was done in a resolution which stated that the General Assembly:
- Acknowledges the conclusion of the work of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, and welcomes its report;
- Decides that the proposal of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals contained in the report shall be the main basis for integrating sustainable development goals into the post-2015 development agenda, while recognizing that other inputs will also be considered, in the intergovernmental negotiation process at the sixty-ninth session of the General Assembly.
As a result, the SDGs as they now stand in the Outcome Document, are the current and best statement of the goals until such time as they are fully adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
It also means that work on indicators under these SDGs is also imperative, particularly for the oceans SDGs and other related goals. A news item seeking your participation in the development of these indicators will be circulated shortly.
