His Excellency Tommy Remengesau, Jr. President of Palau and Co-Chair of the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA), and Audrey Newman, long-term strategist and senior adviser to GLISPA, received prestigious environmental awards on Monday night at the 9th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas in Suva, Fiji.
President Remengesau, Jr. was awarded the“Champion of the Pacific Environment,” the most prestigious for all Pacific environmental awards. Audrey Newman was one of three winners of the “Lifetime Achievement for Excellence in Pacific Environmental Leadership.”
Presented by the Minister of Environment for Fiji, the Pacific Islands Environment Leadership Awards (PIELA) specifically reward and promote the contributions of outstanding individuals, countries or organizations towards achieving an environmentally sustainable Pacific. The award ceremony took place at the opening of the biggest environment related conference in the Pacific with more then 700 attendees.
