MARLISCO was presented and well received at the “Global Congress on Integrated Coastal Management”, a joint event of EMECS and MEDCOAST, which took place in Marmaris, Turkey, between the 30th October and 3rd November 2013.

There was a special session on marine litter and MARLISCO, followed by a lively discussion.  Joana M. Veiga (EUCC) introduced the topic, providing examples of the different impacts marine litter can have and how each individual and sector is responsible. She presented MARLISCO and how the project will help in spreading the message and bring together efforts in several European coastal countries. Xenia Loizidou (Isotech) showed some of the best practices for prevention and remediation of marine litter collected in MARLISCO, and an innovative tool (DeCyDe) that can help prioritising and selecting the most adequate ones for a particular context. This conference was attended by 300 scientists and experts, from 40 different countries.
