EUCC France at the forefront on coastal training

  • Field workshop in Noirmoutier Island (Vendée)

EUCC-France held its 22nd Field Workshop on the French Atlantic coast on 4 and 5 April 2012, in partnership with the Office National des Forêts and the University of Nantes. Over 70 participants including representatives of municipalities of the island of Noirmoutier and State departments have discussed the problems of management of coastal dunes and their role in the defense system against sea-erosion and marine flooding. An observatory of natural hazards was created by the municipalities of Noirmoutier Island for monitoring coastal structures and beaches, on the basis of GIS. The workshop showed once again how useful it was to put in the field stakeholders all together, to exchange experiences, discuss best sustainable practices, help elected representatives in the decision process and make the civil society aware of natural hazards.
